Best Hair and Makeup for Boudoir | Columbus Ohio Boudoir Photography

So you’re wondering how you should wear your hair and makeup for your boudoir session. I can definitely help with that, whether you’d like to keep it true-to-you, or channel your altar ego, I’ve got ya covered, babe. And when I say I, I actually mean one of my incredibly talented glam girls.

Let’s talk light coverage first.

FLIRTY

Say you hardly ever wear makeup, Burt’s Bees and a little mascara are your daily go-to’s and you really want to keep it demure. Here’s what we’ll suggest. Let’s keep to natural tones, similar to your complexion, complimentary to your eyes, and let’s keep it matte. Things to note, and not to be concerned with— All clients have foundation, concealer, brows filled in, contour, blush, highlight, eye shadow, and mascara. Everyone also gets false lashes unless you really protest, but honestly it opens up the eyes and adds a little drama. Everything for the camera needs to be a little exaggerated, and my girls know exactly what to do. Don’t worry it will look heavy in the mirror but the camera will play nice with the more opaque makeup.

FEISTY

If you wear makeup daily, and you want to step it up a little, but you don’t want to look TOO overdone, this is where most clients end up. We’re going to play up all your best features with highlight and contour, defining shadows which can be in natural tones, shimmers, or a fun complimentary color (think plums, burgandy, slate gray). We’re also going to pop on some fun lashes to make your eyes look wide and glamorous. In this category, we usually suggest either a bold eye or bold lip, but not both. This can mean smokey eye, nude matte lip, or it can mean an understated eye, winged liner, and red lip.

DARING

This is for the woman who wants to step outside their comfort zone or really wants to play up all features. This style is where you see most smokey eyes, dark eyeliner, cut crease, shimmery eyes and cheeks, and bold lips.

In any of the above catagories, the stylist will determine what looks best on your complexion, with your skin type, the shape of your face and eyes, and what will compliment the colors you’ll be wearing in your session. This way you can just sit back, relax, enjoy your mimosa and be pampered.

When it comes to your hair, you can either keep it close to “everyday” and wear it how you normally would, or you can take advantage of the professional and have them do something you can’t. Below are some styles we love, including the last section with “oomph”. No up-do’s, save those for your wedding, but you can incorporate a fun style to show off your personality. Your hair should be fun and moveable, I will have your hands in it, flipping it around and if it’s too perfect, we won’t be able to do that. Plus, perfection is boring.
