Best Outfits and Lingerie for Boudoir | Columbus Boudoir Studio

Fashion is one of those things that I have a love//hate relationship with. I love to look fashionable, cute, sexy, on trend, but damn I hate deciding what to wear. It doesn’t get any easier when you strip down either, does it? But listen girl, I spend so much time discovering the best cuts, styles and outfits for you and your body type. In fact, just today I scrolled through Yandy, Fredericks of Hollywood and Bluebella just to see what’s in season. But because of that, and the fact that I work with 100 women a year in my Columbus boudoir studio, I know what’s going to make the best outfit for you and your shoot.

FILL IN THE BLANK: The best outfits are ones that ______________________.

The answer? The best outfits are the ones you feel confident in. I can talk up the high end lingerie until I’m blue in the face, but if you put a piece on and it doesn’t make you feel like a goddess, it's not for you.

With that being said, many women feel confident in pieces that cover their trouble areas. And that’s great, but you have to keep in mind, that just because it makes you feel comfortable, doesn’t mean it flatters the body. Oh, and comfort doesn’t equal confidence. I feel fierce AF in a pair of platform heels, but those aren’t comfortable at all. Each body is completely different and I would need to know your body type, sizing, and trouble areas to be able to make recommendations for you. Generally though, form fitting items (no babydolls), high waisted panties, high cut legs, bodysuits and demi cut or long line bras are typically very flattering on most body types.

Something else to keep in mind is to appeal to the camera. Certain colors don’t play nice with my lenses and lighting situation. Beyond that, not every color works on every skin tone. As a general rule I suggest women stay away from vivid bright color like hot pinks, lime green, teal, or bright yellows. Jewel tones, earth tones, and neutrals are ALWAYS amazing. Black is always classic and I have yet to find someone that didn’t look sexy in black.

I want you to set the tone of your session with your outfits. Depending on the vibe you’re going for…

…If you want to feel fun, flirty, and low key, I’d suggest a softer wardrobe. Tee shirts, tank tops, cotton undies, rompers, and more casual body suits. This is where you can play with the colors and keep it fun.

…If you want to feel elegant, graceful, beautiful, I would suggest materials like lace and satin, with floral details. The best outfit types are a bra and panty set, merriwidows or teddies, robes and kimonos. Pastel, jewel tones and neutrals are always so sweet.

…If you want to feel ultra sexy, seductive and maybe domineering, I would recommend satins, leathers, strappy details and fishnet. Go for dark colors, burgandy, purples, deep reds, navy, emerald and as always, black. And you can take it up a notch with stockings, garters, chokers and cuffs.

If you wand more goodies like the above advice, head over to the style guide.

So here’s my last secret. I have a style rule and I am willing to share it with you! I call it the 3 piece rule. When planning your outfits, choose your base (bra and panty, body suit, merriwidow) that’s your first piece. For your second piece, this can be stockings, high heels, or a piece of jewelry. Then for your third piece, this should be an attention grabber- this can be a kimono or robe with a pattern, it can be a fur, it can be wrist restraints, or another larger more obvious jewelry piece. The important thing is that it is not a prop, but a wearable accessory. This is what takes your wardrobe up a notch.

And, If you don’t know by now, I have a studio wardrobe, ranging from sizes XS-3X and shoes sizes 6-9. I try to buy all sorts of styles to appeal to as many women as possible, but I can’t guarantee I have something you’ll love in your size so it’s always a good idea to bring some of your own items.
