Are women's halloween costumes sexist?

This is my F A V O R I T E time of year! I love pumpkin spice lattes, bonfires, football, and getting dressed up! I've even been known to tour every halloween store in the county just to look at the selection of  costumes and decorations. Recently, I've overheard in stores, or seen articles in the media about women's costumes being sexist. So as a boudoir photographer whose mission it is to empower women to be themselves in any situation, there are a few things I think you should know about sexy halloween costumes.

First and foremost, wearing sexy halloween costumes {ie. sexy nurse, school girl, french maid etc} does not define you, and you are not a slut. If a man dresses like a criminal, Jeffrey Dahmer, or Bill Cosby, does that make him a cannibal or rapist? No. In fact, isn't the purpose of dressing up to be something you're not? As a plus size woman with a less than plus size bust, I've always wanted to wear one of those costumes but never had the guts. If you want to wear the low cut mini dress I say more power to you! You do it. Hold your head high, strut around your party like the hot bitch that you are!

Secondly, if wearing one of "those" costumes isn't your style, you are no less of a woman. You don't have to have your tits out to be sexy either. You get to choose what you want to dress up as, if you even want to dress up at all. There are so many non-sexual costumes out there, too. If the seductive wench isn't your thing, choose something else. Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas, Rey from Star Wars, a Ghostbuster for instance are all women's costumes that have no sexual aspect.

Lastly, and possibly the most important point I want to make is: you are not empowering other women by putting those costumes down. You are NOT a feminist if you feel there shouldn't be slutty counterpart to each male option. Just because there is a provocative option, doesn't mean you have to buy or wear it, and you are capable of finding and wearing a cop costume without showing your lady bits. BUT If you see a woman at a party and she is showing her legs off, and she has the confidence to rock the sexy cop with her push up bra, don't give her a side eye, give her a compliment!
