10 Things to Consider When Booking a Boudoir Photographer | Columbus Boudoir Photography

There is a lot to consider when making any decision, however the person who you choose to photograph you in your most vulnerable state (maybe even nude) is kind of a big deal. I put together a list of 10 things to ask, consider, or look into before booking someone for your photoshoot. I’m including my answers as well just in case I end up being the photographer for you. If not, that’s okay, I want you to have the best experience possible!

1. How do they make you feel? Trust your instincts. If when you look at their work or bio, do you think you’ll be comfortable and get along well? If you’re uncomfortable at all during your session it is going to come across in your facial expression and body language. So, of course, I want all of my clients to be as comfortable as possible when they are in the studio. It’s important that we vibe.

2. Studio vibe- do the studio elements, decor and furniture match the style you’re aiming for? As for my studio, I have a lot of neutral, elegant, feminine pieces of furniture, and lots of luxe fabrics from velvet, satin, fur etc. The vibe is bright, bold, boujee, luxe chic.

3. Posing Style- do you want to look intricately posed like a magazine cover or do you want to look effortless and candid? My particular posing style is meant to make you look natural, authentic, and effortless. If “I woke up like this” was a pose…that’s what we’re going for.

4. Lighting style- do you prefer natural window light or flash and studio light? The 614 Boudoir studio is natural light only. If for some reason it is storming on the day of your session, and we need to amplify with studio lights I am trained to do that, however, you can’t beat the golden glow of natural sunlight, and it will forever be my first choice.

5. Editing style- do you want your skin retouched, blemishes and cellulite smoothed? Do you want to be all natural or do you want to be airbrushed to perfection? My editing style is to retouch without performing photoshop plastic surgery. If it is temporary like blemishes, bruises, bug bites, consider it gone! Tan lines are blended, Cellulite is smoothed, and things like scars and stretch marks are up to you if you want them removed. Specific edits can be discussed during your image viewing, but keep in mind editing is the last line of defense. I would much rather have you wear something incredibly flattering, and pose you beautifully, being creative before relying on software to nip tuck anything you are insecure about.

6. Is wardrobe provided or is a style guide offered to give direction and guidance? When you book your session with me I do send out a style guide to help you determine what silhouettes will be most flattering, which pieces match certain vibes, and places I recommend to shop. Then, on the day of your session, you are welcome to borrow from my client closet. I have sizes S-5X, and shoes size 6-11. If you want my personal styling and shopping services, I can help with that as well!
7. Is Hair and Makeup provided? By who? And where does that occur?
Hair and Makeup is provided with my sessions. It takes place in the studio by one of my glam girls dependent on their schedules. All of my stylists are INCREDIBLY talented and want you to look and feel your best.
8. How and when will you view or receive your photos?
You will see your photos the same day as your session! After the shooting is done, you’ll take a short break and I will load your photos for you to see. When you come back we view them on the TV together and you’ll pick out the ones you love. Images are sold separately from the session fee, and can be purchased the day of the session or prior using a pre-session payment plan.
9. What do their reviews say?
I might be biased but my reviews are amazing! I always love reading what clients have to say about their experiences with me. You can read them for yourself on FB or Google, or even The Knot. I also have a highlight on IG called ‘testimonials’.
10. Pricing-
does it fit your budget, does it match the value delivered, and are payment plans offered? A 614 Boudoir session is $400, this includes your hair and makeup, wardrobe guidance, a 1 hour shoot, expert posing and expression coaching, 2 outfit changes, and a same day image reveal. Images are purchased separately and retouched, albums, wall art or collections designed and ordered to be shipped to you. Payment plans are available before or after your session, as well as financing options like Paypal Credit, Klarna, Afterpay etc.

These aren’t necessarily in order of importance, but did you notice I put pricing last? That’s because if all the other things don’t line up with your expectations it doesn’t matter what your budget is. It’s most important that what you are looking for lines up with what the photographer provides. If you’re looking for dark and moody, selective coloring, raw unretouched images or digital images included, I am not the photographer for you. And that’s okay, because there are so many other talented boudoir photographers in Columbus Ohio. I am happy to give you a referral if you need! If you decide I am the photographer for you though, I would LOVE to chat with you about making your Boudoir Experience with me extra special. Drop me a line to start the conversation!
